Lillian Reese wrote her first manuscript at the age of 24. The manuscript was never submitted for publication and was eventually lost during a move. Eight years later, after the dot-com crash of 2000 caused the collapse of her website design business, Lillian was inspired to write again. This time her goal was to prevent her then six-year old son from choosing the same pathways she followed that eventually led her to where she was. Being a gifted reader, her son relished the story and asked her to draw pictures of Little Mouse for him. The first picture of Little Mouse was drawn and Rufus was born (see first picture here).
Little Mouse was eventually filed away, but remained a periodic topic of conversation. Now, at the age of 15, Lillian’s son still feels connected to Little Mouse and has encouraged her to fully illustrate and publish the book so other young readers can learn what Little Mouse knows.
